Opening Kick

With Father's Day, Mother's Day, and Graduations around the corner, we provide you with some suggestions for affordable yet great rugby gifts!

Eagles:


Head coach Alex Magleby has named his team for this week's Glasgow 7's. The only changes have Blaine Scully coming in for Mike Palefau and Pila Taufa being added as an alternate.

Fifteens head coach Mike Tolkin was busy as well, calling in 32 players into camp in Atlanta, Georgia this week.

College:

BYU and Cal will square off in yet another championship match this weekend. BYU topped Central Washington while Cal beat Navy in the Varsity Cup semi-finals.

There were no surprises in the DI-A playoffs as Arkansas State, Life, Cal Poly, and St. Mary's all won.

Whoever advances to the DI-A final will have the chance to play on national television. U.S.A. Rugby reached an agreement with ESPN to have the DI-A final and the College 7's Nationals on the network.

In DI-AA, Dartmouth have partially made up for their loss in the Varsity Cup by advancing to the final four in Bowling Green by beating Pittsburgh and St. Bonaventure. They will be joined by Central Florida--who beat Tennessee and Clemson--Lindenwood, and Western Washington.

Western Washington beat Chico State and Long Beach on their way to the semis while Lindenwood topped Northern Illinois and Bowling Green. Check out the full bracket with scores.

The DII final will feature Minnesota-Duluth, Indiana (PA), and Maryland-rivals Salisbury and Towson. Here is the full bracket. Pat Clifton has more information on each of the teams. There was a bit of controversy as Marist failed to show up for their consolation match on Sunday. (Membership required)

The Northeast Conference has announced their 7's All-Conference team following the Stonehill College 7's.

The University of Texas-San Antonio will not by playing in the Southwest Collegiate Rugby Conference next year after all.

Club:

Several of the Sweet 16 places in DI were decided over the weekend. Boston, Old Blue, Middlesex, and Potomac Athletic Club all advanced with wins.

In the DII Midwest, Wisconsin came away with the title after beating Pittsburgh 30-12.

Atlanta Old White won the South DII title over the weekend but it wasn't without a protest from Naples. (Membership required)

World:

The Irish Independent is reporting that San Diego-born Ronan O'Gara is set to retire for a role in coaching.

There was a lot going in over the weekend so make sure to stay tuned for our World Rugby Weekend Review coming out later today.

It is expected that Leinster boss Joe Schmidt will be named as new Ireland coach today. Matt O'Connor will replace him at Leinster.

Waratahs head coach Michael Cheika was none too pleased with the referee in his team's loss to the Bulls.

Kurtley Beale has returned to training for the Rebels following his disciplinary ban.

Sale will have a number of new players on their roster next season but not Richie Gray, who will be leaving the club for Castres. Elsewhere, Scarlets have confirmed a number of departures.

Ospreys coach Steve Tandy has signed a new four-year deal with the region.

Charles Cameron will take over as new CEO of Worcester following the earlier sacking of Charlie Little.

Japan looks set to repeat as Asian Five Nations champions following their 38-0 win over Hong Kong.

Matt and Kristy Giteau could be the first brother and sister pair to play rugby in Olympics if Matt is able to make the Australian team.

Kenya are the champions of 7's in Africa after they defeated Zimbabwe in the final of the CAR 7's.

Two more spots in the Women's World Cup have been booked as Samoa and Spain sealed their places with weekend wins.
