Some of the more interesting names in camp include Old Blue back Adam Siddall, who was one of the best kickers in the Elite Cup this year. He can either play fly-half or a number of positions in the back. Thiel returns to Eagles camp after taking some time off after the World Cup. If he can regain his form he should give the U.S. much needed depth at hooker. Cam Dolan is healthy and ready to play. He was fantastic in the ARC before getting injured. Shaun Davies is in camp after a strong season with Glendale. James Paterson also returns to camp after overcoming injuries. He reportedly will be available all summer for selection.
Camp Roster: Chris Biller, Jordan Bouey, Miles Craigwell, John Cullen, Shaun Davies, Cornelius Dirksen, Cam Dolan, Brian Doyle, Zach Fenoglio, Dean Gericke, Troy Hall, Graham Harriman, Trevor Cassidy, Kris Headlee, Will Holder, Tom Katzfey, Titi Lamositele, Toby L'Estrange, Chad London, Mike MacDonald, Liam Murphy, Zach Pangelinan, James Paterson, Zach Pauga, Shawn Pittman, Chris Saint, Adam Siddall, Andrew Suniula, Phil Thiel, Zach Walker, Nick Wallace.
Unavailable (injury or other commitments): Peter Dahl, Paul Emerick, Seamus Kelly, Mike Petri, Will Haydock.

Players who live and play overseas werent invited to this I am guessing?
ReplyDeleteYes. Many of them are still playing while others need downtime. Most of those players also have significant experience with the team and this camp is being used to get veteran players more fitness as well as to build squad depth. I'll have another article on the camp up tomorrow (tell your friends) with quotes from coach Tolkin.
DeleteInteresting that Dan Payne played Cam Dolan at left wing against Army. Dolan played a blinder in the backline. And the US is heavy at loose forward, but in need of bulk and experience at center. Might we see a position change for Dolan?
ReplyDeleteWith the amount of professional game-time played and film available, Tolks has probably seen what he needs to see of the overseas players. What the US need is true depth. Assessing the up-and-comers in a camp with the stateside shoo-ins in an early camp gives Tolks and his coaches the opportunity to explain to the hopefuls what is required of them to take the next step. Additionally it gives those same hopefuls the opportunity for self-assessment alongside of those who have been there, done that. We can easily imagine that Tolks will name several of those hopefuls to the ARC squad.
Quite a bit of speed and size in this crew. Encouraging.
Thank you both for the explanation. Exciting to see some Eagles action in Atlanta finally!
ReplyDeleteInteresting observation Grant! So he would go from the largest Wing on the planet, to the largest Center?
ReplyDeleteI suppose odder things have happened!...lol.....Know he is working hard!
