The match began with the U.S. having a bit of possession only to give it away in dangerous positions. Things took an even worse turn with Folau Niua was sent to the sin bin roughly three minutes into the match. That allowed Javier Rojas the opening he needed to score and convert Argentina's first try. The U.S. did get on the board two minutes later when some nice passing allowed Zach Test to bring the score to 7-5, but that would be it for the Eagles.

The U.S. gifted possession to Argentina once again as the ensuing restart went straight out. All Jeronimo de la Fuente had to do after that was break a few tackles and raced in for the score. Rojas hit the conversion to give Argentina a 14-5 lead.
Any chance the Eagles had to win the match fell apart in the second half as Argentina were absolutely dominant. Rojas scored his second try two minutes into the match while Francisco Merello add one of his one a few minutes later. The U.S. kept pressing but were pushed backwards through tough Argentine defense and their own sloppy passing. The one dangerous moment for the Eagles came courtesy of a Maka Unufe break but as he was tackled sliding into the tryzone the ball slipped out of his hands.
Overall the Eagles will be disappointed with the result. They were disappointed to give away a lead against New Zealand yesterday and to allow Canada to beat them. Their pool draw was always going to make things difficult but they were still expected to at least compete more against Argentina. Magleby has done wonders for the program since taking over and deserved more in his final match.
The team will now have a few months off before they reconvene to prepare for the Gold Coast 7's.
