Paul Emerick Retires (with video highlights)

Long-time Eagle Paul Emerick has announced his retirement in a press release from U.S.A. Rugby. With 53 caps to his name he is one of only a handful of players to ever get over 50 caps for the Eagles. He also appeared in three World Cups. He is also second on the all-time try-scoring list with 17. He's been slowed by injuries as of late with an ankle injury suffered in the last stages of the match in Romania last year being his latest.

Emerick came out of relatively obscurity at the University of Northern Iowa to have a distinguished professional career. He made several stops in Italy first with Amatori Catania and then two stints with Overmach Parma. He also spent time with the Dragons and Ulster. His latest stop was with London Wasps. During his time back in the states he played with Life.

While he certainly had his fair share of controversy--the Olly Barkeey and DTH van der Merwe incidents--he was won of the most gifted players ever to put on an Eagles jersey. He gave complete dedication to playing for the team and did everything asked of him. You can't ask for more than that. He will be missed.

Take the jump to enjoy some highlights.

  1. Sad to see him go. I wonder what he will do next? Coach?
