Opening Kick

Opening Kick is a segment devoted to bringing you all Eagles and U.S.A. Rugby news in one location.

Hopefully you didn't miss our inaugural podcast. We talked with NYC 7's co-coach Steve Lewis, SFGG stalwart Mose Timoteo, and answered your questions.

National Teams:

Big news yesterday as Matt Hawkins was named the new head coach of the Eagles 7's. He'll begin immediately and will be at the upcoming nationals and Serevi RugbyTown Sevens.

The day began with some speculation that it might not be Hawkins given that both Mike Friday and Paul Treu were available. However, when Geoff Alley said he wasn't in the running we knew and appointment wasn't far off.

Colorado natives Sadie Anderson and Kittery Wagner are excited to be back in their home state playing in the Nations Cup.

Club/College:

Pat Clifton reports that a new West Coast 15's competition could be in the works. (Membership required)

Despite losing, the Lions tour was very profitable for Australia.

Worcester won the opening leg of the J.P. Morgan 7's series in Gloucester yesterday. The second leg is today.

South Africa and Argentina remain unbeaten at the World Games as the competition heads into day two.

Rodney So'oialo won't be headed to Wales any time soon considering his wage demands.

Jersey in the Premiership? Their director of rugby says it is entirely possible.

Glasgow will be without Niko Matawalu for several weeks after he broke his foot.

In player movement, Bedford have signed one and dual-registered two players from Saracens.
