Rumored candidate Mike Friday. |
It's been roughly two months since Alex Magleby announced he would be stepping down as head coach of the U.S.A. 7's team and U.S.A. Rugby has yet to name a successor. That's a problem. As I explain in my latest RugbyRugby article U.S.A. Rugby has plenty of reasons to keep the coaching search secretive--negotiation tactics, interviews, etc.--but it still should not be taking this long to name a successor. The domestic sevens season is already nearly over and whoever takes over the program will be playing catch-up. Considering the amount of success the team had at the end of last season taking any longer to name a head coach could cause the team to take a step backward, exactly the opposite of what is needed only a few years out from the Olympics.
