The New York City Sevens squad has been announced to compete in the inaugural Aviva Premiership World Club 7’s to be held at the home of rugby, Twickenham Stadium, on the weekend of August 17-18, 2013. The squad will comprise six fully-contracted USA Eagles players from the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, as well as six players from the new Combined Northeast Olympic Development Academy (ODA) based in New York and Boston. The six local picks to be included in the 12-man travelling squad will come from the following eight players; former USA age-grade players, Jack Tracy (Tiger Rugby) and Dimitri Efthimiou (Mystic River), as well as the top performers in the Northeast circuit this summer, Derek Lipscomb and Gareth Stoppani (Old Blue New York), John Feldman and Sean Rafferty (both Long Island), and Vini Daley and Jon Kokinda (both Middlesex).

The squad will be coached by the Combined Northeast ODA pairing of Sean Horan and Steve Lewis, with Dom Wareing as trainer and Bret Costain as Manager.

“This will be a terrific opportunity for some of our younger local players to represent New York and USA Rugby, showcase their talents, and experience top-level competition at the most famous of all rugby grounds. We are hopeful this can be a springboard for these players to excel and challenge for national squad places in the very near future and are thankful for the assistance we have received from the Empire and New England Unions as well as Source Water and Rhino Sports UK. We are excited to be invited by the Aviva Premiership organization and believe that with the inclusion of six USA national squad players, we will be extremely competitive on the weekend”, said Head Coach Sean Horan.
