Opening Kick

Opening Kick is a segment devoted to bringing you all Eagles and U.S.A. Rugby news in one location.

We've extended the deadline for our contest to win a Lions 125th Anniversary Ball. It's easy. All you have to do is caption the photo and like the TIAR and Rhino Rugby USA Facebook pages.

National Teams:

The Eagles won't have to worry about three Tongan players this Saturday as they were handed suspensions following their actions in the match against Canada.

The Men's College All-American roster has been released. 28 players will travel to New Zealand for three matches. The team was chosen after a rigorous training camp.

The Women Eagles couldn't repeat their performance against France from last week as they came up short, 27-25, last night in the second of their three tests against France. Jackie Finlan has more on the match, including the star role of penalties.

Alex Goff has some notes from Eagles camp in Southern California. (Membership required) Rugbymag also shares a cool video of the atmosphere from Houston.

Club/College:

The CRC is still the premier college event in the country, but yesterday we wondered if the competition can survive in its current format.

The first Midwest 7's qualifier is this weekend with the Minnesota 7's. The Chicago Lions, Chicago Griffins, and the Tiger Cubs will all be participating.

Here is another great feature on the Wisconsin Rugby Club. They won this year's DII championship.

World:

He may not play Super Rugby this year but Richie McCaw is set to return from his sabbatical by playing for a local club in Christchurch.

France could be without the services of Mathieu Bastareaud for their second match against New Zealand.

The Springboks have made some changes to their lineup for Scotland on Saturday.

Fiji celebrated their centennial as a union by beating the Classic All Blacks.

Tidbits:

In his latest article on RugbyRugby, Kimball Kjar talks about the importance of the scrumhalf in 7's.

Rugby in Texas is on the rise. That's something that the Irish press picked up on last week.
