Who Will Start For The Eagles?

Yesterday's roster announcement left fans wondering who would get the start for the Eagles on Saturday. Pat Clifton already came out with his predictions, which you should check out, and today we'd thought we'd give ours.  Most of the starting positions are pretty obvious. Todd Clever will start at number eight, Shawn Pittman and Eric Fry will man the props, Brian Doyle and Lou Stanfill will be the locks, and Robbie Shaw will be the scrum-half.  But other positions aren't so clear. Who will start at hooker is a big question given that Chris Biller is out with injury. Center is another big question, as are some spots on the back row.

Take the jump to read more.
Prop: Shawn Pittman and Eric Fry will undoubtably start while Mike MacDonald and Nick Wallace will fill in on the bench.

Hooker: Head coach Mike Tolkin has three options at hooker: Zach Fenoglio, Phil Thiel, and Tom Coolican. Thiel split starting time with Biller at the World Cup but has been out of rugby union for the last little while. Still, there may not be a better time to re-integrate him into the game than this match. Fenoglio has been working hard and good a look last year. Coolican is new to the squad. In the end we think that Fenoglio has been in a better groove as of late and will get the starting nod.

Lock: Again, pretty straightforward. Brian Doyle and Lou Stanfill will start while Graham Harriman will be on the bench.

Back-row: Todd Clever and John Quill are the go to starters in this situation. The question is whether Peter Dahl or Liam Murphy will join them. Dahl has the experience of being with the team last fall but Murphy is held in pretty high regard around the country. We'll go with Murphy on this one.

Scrumhalf: No Mike Petri means this is Robbie Shaw's turn to shine while Chris Saint backs him up.

Fly-half: Toby L'Estrange will probably start but there is a sense in some circles that Adam Siddall provides a better option. If Siddall starts at fly-half, L'Estrange will be pushed to the center or wing.

Center: Andrew Suniula is the most experienced and will start but outside of him it's a bigger question mark. Adam Siddall is a great option at this position. He is too talented not be in the side. Troy Hall and Seamus Kelly will be on the bench.

Back three: James Paterson and Luke Hume are the incumbent starters on the wing while Blaine Scully will finally get a chance to show the same form he had at the World Cup as a fullback.
