Eagles Abroad: Weekend Review

A reserve heavy LV= Cup and poor weather conditions in the UK made for a relatively quiet weekend for Americans abroad. The only Americans to see action in one of the major competitions in Europe were Samu Manoa and Taku Ngwenya. Outside of Europe, Derek Asbun got some valuable experience against the South Africa U-20's and Anthony Estrella and his Toshiba team lost in the Top League final.

British Isles:

LV= Cup

Chris Wyles was not in the lineup for the Saracens as they beat Cardiff 19-11 on Sunday.

Samu Manoa started and played 67 minutes for Northampton as they beat Gloucester 26-7 on Saturday.

Paul Emerick was not in the lineup for London Wasps as they lost to Leicester 34-8 on Saturday. Emerick is back in the U.S. to rehab a season-ending leg injury.

Hanno Dirksen was not in the Osprey’s lineup as they lost to the Dragons 18-14 on Saturday. Dirksen is out with a long-term injury

Callum Black and Ulster had the weekend off.

Dave Ryan and Zebre had the weekend off.

Tommy Seymour and Glasgow had the weekend off. (NOTE: As is our policy, we will continue to cover U.S.-eligible players until they lose that eligibility, which for Seymour may be in the next few weeks.)

RFU Championship

Eric Fry was scheduled to be on the bench for London Scottish against Doncaster on Friday but the match was called off due to poor pitch conditions.

Jason Law and Oxford had their match against the RAF last Wednesday cancelled due to snow.

Taku Ngwenya started and played 80 minutes for Biarritz as they lost to Toulouse 19-14 last Friday.

Scott LaValla was not in the lineup for Stade Francais as they beat Grenoble 35-6 on Friday.

Roland Suniula came off the bench for Auch and played five minutes as they lost to La Rochelle 20-3 on Saturday.

Inaki Basauri and Tarbes beat Aurillac 15-9 on Sunday.

Seta Tuilevuka and Beziers beat Massy 30-21 on Sunday.

Mate Moeakiola and L’Uson had their match against Lourdes postponed on Saturday.

Lou Stanfill and Vicenza lost to Paese 16-14 on Sunday.

Todd Clever and the NTT Shining Arcs have finished their season.

Anthony Estrella was not in the lineup for Toshiba Fuchu Brave Lupus as they lost to Suntory Sungoliath 19-3 in the Top League final on Sunday.

Derek Asbun started for the University of Cape Town as they lost to the South Africa U-20's 52-19 in a pre-season match.
