Opening Kick

Opening Kick is a segment devoted to bringing you all Eagles and USA rugby related news in one location.

Eagles/7's:

A total of six Eagles camp invitees played in the Super League final, but it wasn't good news for Pate Tuilevuka and Toby L'Estrange, who both picked up injuries. Tuilevuka has confirmed he is out of the squad while L'Estrange's status (broken arm) is up in the air.

For the players in camp, they played a secret scrimmage (membership required) to help them sort out their starters and reserves. Additionally, here is some footage of drills from camp.

Alex Goff was at camp and has an update on how Mike Tolkin's team is doing. (Membership required)

Chris Wyles will be getting a new club coach as Andy Farrell has announced that he will leave Saracens.

Interesting development, English and French clubs have announced that they will not participate in the Heineken Cup unless reforms are made to the qualification process.

Speaking of the Heineken Cup, the tiers for next year's draw have been announced.

Central Washington's Tony Pacheco has been named the 7's All-Americans head coach. (Membership required)

Collegiate Rugby Championships:

Dartmouth, led by tournament MVP Madison Hughes, are the winners of the 2012 Collegiate Rugby Championships. It's the second win in a row for the school.

Runners-up in the tournament were a tough Arizona side who had to deal with the loss of Peter Tiberio to a broken arm.

It was another disappointing finish for Cal who had to settle for third place with a win over Life.

In the Challenger bracket, Florida topped Maryland for the title.

Hosts Temple had an okay time at the tournament but are always looking to improve.

Attendance at the event continues to grow with just over 18,000 fans attending over the two days. That is about 1,000 more than last year.

So with that support, it looks like the tournament will continue to be held in PPL Park for the next two years. It also appears that NBC has signed up for the tournament once again as well.

There were a lot of standout players at the tournament but only a few could have been selected for Rugbymag's All-Tournament Team.

Here is a photo gallery of all the action from the tournament, and here is a list of all the point scorers.

Also part of the tournament was a high school challenge. Fallbrook won the women's event while Pride won the men's event.

Club:

In a throughly entertaining contest, NYAC topped OPSB for the Super League title. It's their second title in three years. Lou Stanfill was named Man of the Match.

In DI, the host team Glendale wasn't able to deal with the loss of some of their stars and fell to Belmont Shore, who picked up their first DI title.

Rocky Gorge and New Orleans won the DII and DIII championships over the weekend.

Tidbits:

The new PAC-12 rugby conference is getting bigger as Oregon State has signed on.

Guyana are through to the next stage of World Cup Qualifying after a win over Trinidad and Tobago.
