Organizers Discussing Rugby League Double-Header In New York

According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald recently the man making the push to bring a New York team to the Super League in England is looking to host a double-header featuring the Australian National Rugby League side. Australia have, along with New Zealand, been the kings of international rugby league. Reportedly Australia would play Tonga at Red Bull Arena while the plan would also be to include the Hawks taking on another side, possibly Ireland or Italy.

The idea comes forward after the match between New Zealand and England in Denver recently saw mild success. The match made Mile High Stadium look vacant but it did draw okay numbers and it was shown on the CBS Sports Network. Organizers hope that this match lands on television as well and draws in even more fans. Whether it actually comes to pass is up in the air but right now the plan is to have it in the fall.
