Eagles Abroad: Offseason Movement

With the European club pre-season and the Southern Hemisphere regional competitions like the Mitre 10 Cup kicking off soon we thought we'd take a look at some offseason movement for Americans overseas.

Chris Wyles (retirement): One of the biggest offseason moves was Chris Wyles hanging up his boots after a long career with the Eagles and Saracens. He's a big presence that should stay involved in the American game.

Samu Manoa (Toulon to Cardiff): The Eagles forward finished up his time with Toulon and is making the move to join Blaine Scully at Cardiff. He saw a lot of success at Toulon (and at Northampton before that) but wasn't always given a starting opportunity. He should get that in Cardiff.

Andrew Durutalo (Worcester to Ealing): Durutalo is headed back to the RFU Championship and the side that launched his UK career. He was an absolute monster in his short time with Ealing at the start of the 2016-17 season and the club is hoping he regains that form.

Nick Civetta (Newcastle to Doncaster): Civetta spent a lot of time on loan to Doncaster from Newcastle last year and this makes that move permanent. Once again the RFU Championship should have a number of American players.

Callum Black (Ulster to Worcester): After spending a number of years with Ulster the U.S.-eligible prop is headed to Worcester. Don't look for him to be in an Eagles jersey anytime soon.

David Tameilau (Narbonne to Glasgow): Tameilau had a fantastic season with Narbonne in the Pro D2 and now makes the move to Glasgow where he will join Greg Peterson.

Thretton Palamo (released from Bristol): As expected Thretton Palamo has been released by Bristol. Injuries robbed him of playing time and he was never really a factor for the team as they gained promotion.

Ben Landry (Glendale to Ealing): Landry will get his first taste of overseas professional rugby with Ealing. He played with the Denver in Pro Rugby and then Glendale.

Bryce Campbell (Glendale to London Irish): Another young American who is going overseas for the first time.

Tim Maupin (St. Mary's College to NOLA Gold): After spending a number of years in Ireland Maupin came home for the MLR season.

Siaosi Mahoni (Narbonne to Utah Warriors): Another player that came home although we could easily see him heading back overseas.

Mose Fualaau (released from the Clermont Academy): Fualaau is not longer with the Clermont Academy.

We've also had questions about the status of Christian Ostberg. He's been injured since before Christmas with a ruptured hamstring ligament. He's likely to miss the first few matches of the season for Aurillac but will be back with the team.

There could be a few others that we missed. Feel free to let us know.
