MLR Standings Analysis: Playoff Battles Galore To End Season

The Seattle Seawolves became the first team to clinch a spot in the MLR playoffs after they beat Houston over the weekend. The Seawolves currently lead the competition with 25 points and a 5-1 record. They can still be caught by Glendale who have only played five matches and have 24 points. They have a perfect 5-0 record. Both Glendale and Seattle are guaranteed to finish with winning records. Seattle are on track for roughly 33 points while Glendale are on track for 38 points. Right now it looks like the only thing that can change Glendale finishing over Seattle is if Seattle win their match-up in a couple of weeks. Glendale just need a couple more points to ensure a playoff spot.

On the flip side the Houston SaberCats aren't officially eliminated from the playoffs but they might as well be. They became the first team to ensure that they will finish with a losing record after they dropped their fifth match. Houston has struggled this year in getting results. They have had close matches but only the one win to their name. Right now they are on track for only 12 points. Utah, who is in fourth place, already has 15 points. If Houston drop their next match (they play Glendale) they will be eliminated from the playoffs

The race to see who is going to join Seattle and Glendale in the playoffs is going to be fun to watch. After a couple of wins in a row Austin are looking good and are the only team outside of Seattle or Glendale to not have a losing record. They have three wins and three losses and are on track for 23 points.

Utah's loss last week hurt their chances. They are still in a playoff spot ahead of NOLA who have an identical record. Utah has been able to pick up bonus points to push them ahead. The team that can catch them is San Diego. The Legion are the only team besides Glendale to have only played five matches and are on track for 18 points.  Utah are on track for 20 points. The Warriors finish out the season against NOLA (which will likely end the playoff chances of one of those teams) and then Utah. San Diego have to play NOLA, Austin, and Glendale.
