MLR Standings & Analysis: Austin Face A Must Win

Glendale and Seattle are officially in the playoffs while Houston are officially out after another weekend of MLR play. Seattle was already in but they kept their hopes of potentially finishing with the top see alive after they came back to beat Austin. Glendale claimed their spot with a win over Houston. The Raptors are still the only unbeaten team in the competition and their match against Seattle next week in Glendale will decide who finishes first. Either way both teams are certain to finish as the top two sides.

Houston are the first team officially out of the playoffs. They only have one game remaining but are six points behind the final team in the playoffs, San Diego. Given the amount of pre-season matches and expectations heading into the season for Houston to only have one win so far is a disappointment.

Right now the final two playoff spots belong to Austin and San Diego. Austin have 18 points while San Diego have 16 points. Both teams will play this next weekend with the winner almost certainly booking themselves a playoff spot. It will be the final match of the season for Austin while San Diego finish up a week later against Glendale. It might be hard to beat Glendale but for San Diego they could also be in a position to pick up some bonus points and secure a playoff spot.

The NOLA Gold and technically alive for the playoffs but with only 12 points they would need San Diego to lose both of their remaining matches as well as to beat Utah this weekend. Even that might not be enough as Utah have a final game after that against Houston. Right now the Warriors are on 15 points.

Because both Utah and San Diego have two matches remaining the pressure is definitely on Austin to win this weekend. If they lose to San Diego it's very possible that they miss out on the playoffs entirely.
