Glendale To Host Women's Sevens Series Stop

The U.S. is once again set to host a leg of the Women's Sevens Series. It was announced today that Glendale and Infinity Park would host the opening round of next year's Series on the 20th and 21st of October. The U.S. has previously hosted the tournament in Atlanta before having it join the men's stop in Vegas for one year. There was no tournament in the U.S. last year with the closest stop being in Langford, British Columbia. The other stops on the Series include Dubai, Sydney, Kitakyushu, and Paris.

Hosting the tournament in Glendale makes a lot of sense. It has known as RugbyTown USA and plays host to the RugbyTown 7s, arguably the most deep non-Series tournament held in the U.S. every year. The women's tournament has never really drawn in a ton of people so having it in the 4,000 stadium in Glendale makes a lot of sense.

"We are thrilled to have a HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series stop return to the United States next season,” said USA Rugby General Manager of Women’s High Performance, Emilie Bydwell said in a press release. “With the considerable growth of women's rugby, having a home tournament provides an access point for the community with our Women's Eagles Sevens. Glendale is an incredible venue and the opportunity to kick off an Olympic Qualification Season at home in front of our athletes' family, friends and fans is amazing. Subsequently, followed up by the Women’s Eagles home match against the Black Ferns just two weeks later, demonstrates commitment to driving the Women's game forward in this country."
