Barbarians Win DII Title, Austin Takes DIII

The Denver Barbarians and the Austin Blacks scored championships over the weekend.

Denver Wins DII Championship

The DII men's final is always one of the most fun matches of the year and Sunday's clash between the Denver Barbarians and the Detroit Tradesmen was no different. Despite being down for nearly the entire match the Barbarians were able to claw their way back into the match and score with three minutes left to win by a point 39-38.

Kevin Kreger got things started for the Tradesmen with a try before Michael Al-Jiboori helped Denver equalize. Next it would be Eagle Ahmad Harajly's turn fore Eric Meyers would return the favor. The teams continued to trade tries with mostly Detroit going ahead before Denver coming back.

The Barbarians actually took a 27-21 lead with less than ten minutes played in the second half but then tries from Conrad Bontrager and Joe Bargerstock along with a couple of conversions and a penalty from Adam Saad gave the Tradesmen a 38-27 lead with just over ten minutes go.

That's when Denver made their comeback. First it was Al-Jiboori scoring a second try and then with just a few minutes left Lance Eberhard crossed over to give the Barbarians the permanent lead.

Austin Go Unbeaten On DIII Run

The Austin Blacks DIII side didn't lose a game all year as they won the DIII title over Long Island 33-18. Each team traded penalties early before they started trading tries. First it was Curtis Chaffin for Austin before it was Greg Pando for Long Island. The New Yorkers went ahead on another penalty but then Austin started to take over with 25 straight points.
