MLR Standings Analysis: Seattle & Glendale Playoff Bound, Houston Nearly Out

Seattle have jumped into the lead at the top of the table with 21 points. However, they have played one more game than Glendale who are right behind them with 19 points. Both Seattle and Glendale have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.

Austin have crawled into a playoff spot while San Diego drop out. That said, things are very close in the bottom five-sevenths of the table with the teams only separated by five points. None of those teams have a winning record. You should expect a lot more change as the season rolls along.

The team in the biggest danger of missing out on the playoffs is Houston. They are on pace to reach between 14-15 points total on the season. That would mean that if just two more teams pick up a win Houston is done. Of course if Houston starts winning it could change things but they need to turn it around fast. One more loss and they are basically out of the playoffs. Complicating things even more is the fact that Houston has to play Seattle and Glendale in the next two weeks. Glendale could be missing a bunch of Eagles on June 8th. All in all it looks like Houston might be done.

The flip side of Houston's struggles are Seattle and Glendale. They both have already probably done enough to secure playoff spots and the top two. Remember, Seattle's only loss this year is to Glendale. The rest of their wins have been strong wins. Few teams have been able to challenge Glendale. Seattle are on pace to finish with roughly 33 points while Glendale are on pace to finish with 38 points. Utah has the next best projection based on their bonus point accumulation. They are the only team in the playoff contenders that doesn't have to play either Glendale or Seattle in their final three matches.
