DI Playoff Field Nearly Set

After this weekend the playoff field for the DI men's playoffs will be set. This year's playoff is a little different with NorCal and SoCal deciding their winner through the Pacific Rugby Premiership and that team then playing the Red River champion but the East Coast bracket remains the same. Mystic River will play the winner of the Mid-Atlantic while Chicago will play NYAC.

Mid-Atlantic

The Mid-Atlantic is down to two. Rocky Gorge and the Norfolk Blues have been the two best sides all year and for the last couple of years. Rocky Gorge has been the class of the competition over the last few years but this year they look vulnerable. In fact, when Gorge and Norfolk met just a few weeks back the Blues won. Last weekend Norfolk beat fellow semi-finalist the Potomac Exiles 48-5. Rocky Gorge similarly had a ballooning scoreline beating the Pittsburgh Harlequins 67-7.

Whoever wins on Saturday will play Mystic River in the DI elite eight. The winner of that Saturday match at regionals will play the winner of the Chicago Lions and NYAC. The Lions were not the top seeded team in the Midwest but champions Metropolis lost a lot of players to MLR and they decided to relinquish their spot.

Red River

Four teams are left in the Red River. The Dallas Reds and the Austin Blacks and have been the top two teams all season (they are tied in the standings) but they are going to have to go through the Glendale Merlins and Dallas Harlequins respectively if they want to play the PRP winner. That will either be OMBAC or Belmont Shore. All four teams will play on Saturday with the winners advancing to the Sunday final.

The East regional will be in Obetz, Ohio and the West regional will be in Fort Worth.
