College 7s Nationals Men's DI Preview & Predictions

This weekend the College 7s Nationals will kick off in Glendale. Here are our previews and predictions of each pool.

Pool A: Lindenwood, Arkansas, Utah, and Missouri

Defending champions Lindenwood look to be the class of this group. It would not only be a surprise if they didn't finish in first place but if they didn't run through the pool with some lopsided scores. Given that it's going to be up to one of Arkansas, Utah, and Missouri to advance. We think Utah has the edge. The program has been up and down the last few years but if they bring a strong squad they will be tough to beat.

Pool B: Cal, Notre Dame College, Fordham, Indiana

This is going to be one of the best pools to see thanks to the Cal-Notre Dame College match-up. Cal area 7s powerhouse and this year have elected to skip the CRC in favor of better competition in the College 7s nationals. They are going to get that against Notre Dame College who are a very good team. We fully anticipate both of them to finish in the two two of the pool with the winner between them taking first place. Unfortunately Fordham and Indiana will likely be in the Bowl.

Pool C: Arizona, Grand Canyon, Florida International, Nevada

On the surface this pool looks like it should be Arizona and Grand Canyon advancing as the top two. Both are very good teams that have some great 7s players. However, Nevada are no slouches and have had a good year. Florida International can also bring some athletes. Arizona and Grand Canyon are still the favorites but there could be an upset.

Pool D: Kutztown, AIC, Western Washington, Wisconsin

To us this is the most even pool in the field. It would not be a surprise to see any of these teams make the quarterfinals. Kutztown and AIC are the odds on favorites to advance but we wouldn't count out Western Washington or Wisconsin. Kutztown has championship material but they have also slipped over the last few years. We think that Western Washington plays spoiler and makes the top eight along with Kutztown.
