Hong Kong 7s: Eagles Run Past Wales

All World Photo
The Eagles got back on track at the Hong Kong 7s with a big 47-5 win over Wales. The win moves the team to one win and one draw on the day and sets up a huge match with Argentina to potentially progress to the Cup round.

It didn't go to plan early as Wales came up with a steal at the breakdown. From there they earned a penalty and eventually found a gap to go up 5-0. But that was all they would get as the U.S. soon turned it on in a big way. Of course it started with Perry Baker. Deep in the U.S. own end he froze the Welsh defense and simply burst past them for the long range score.

Wales simply didn't have an answer for the Eagles pace. Every time Wales gave up possession, often by pressure from the Eagles, the U.S. only had to find a bit of space to run past the Welsh defense. First it was Martin Iosefo and then it was Ben Pinkelman as the U.S. led 21-5 at halftime. The second half was more of the same. Maka Unufe scored first followed by Matai Leuta, Brett Thompson, and Carlin Isles.
