Report: Group Looking To Bring Super Rugby To Hawaii

We've been down this road before but more noise is being made about putting a Super Rugby team inside the United States. This time it's putting a team in Hawaii. According to news sources out of New Zealand business man Richard Face is working with potential investors to have a Super Rugby franchise in Hawaii. The exact plans are unknown but Fale is also working to buy the New Zealand Warriors rugby league team. Apparently he has strong financial backing from a number of folks.

There are of course some obvious problems to the plan. Hawaii, despite it's large Polynesian population, is not the most populous state in the country and there are questions about whether it can support a franchise. It would certainly bring in tourists. At the same time there are questions about whether Super Rugby is even going to expand. They just contracted by three teams so there doesn't seem to be a push to add more anytime soon (although maybe?). Still, it is something to keep an eye on.
