College Championships To Be Held In SoCal

NOTE: The DI-A final will be held in California as well but in the Bay Area at Santa Clara

Press Release

The College 15s National Championships will be played at Titan Stadium on the campus of Cal State Fullerton, the recent site of the USA Eagles' victory over Chile.  The Championship weekend will take place on the 4th and 5th of May. Titan Stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people, and is home to the Cal State Men's and Women's soccer teams, two of the premier programs in the country.

The site will host the National Championships for both Women's DI Elite and Men's D1AA. It will also host the Spring Championships for Women's D1 and D2. As it currently stands, Mary Washington is the only team to have qualified for any of these events, after qualifying as the Men's DIAA Fall representative in December 2017.

USA Rugby's Director of College Rugby, Rich Cortez, is excited about the National Championship Series going to Cal State Fullerton, "Titan Stadium, is a world class facility that we are looking forward to coming to, after the Eagles' triumph earlier this year."

The National Championship series has long been a pathway for young college standouts to have been noticed by Eagles coaching staff. Some recent participants in the NCS that have gone on to be capped include: Dylan Audsley, Dino Waldren, Aladdin Schirmer, and Angus MacLellan. NCS participants also featured on the USA Eagles Women's Rugby World Cup roster last fall, including Tess Feury, Jordan Gray, and Kayla Canett, among others.

Cortez added, "There is an enormous talent pool within college rugby, a testament to the coaches and administrators, I look forward to seeing the talent of the athletes involved with the Championship Series being magnified, and shown on a national stage."
