Eagles Headed To Denver, Houston For Summer Series

The Eagles will be returning to Denver and Houston this summer for their Summer Series. The June 16th match in Houston against Scotland has been all but confirmed for awhile now but the match in Denver on June 9th is new. The match in Houston will be at BBVA Compass Stadium and the match in Denver will be at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The opponent for the match in Houston has yet to be determined. The rumor mill has the U.S. playing Germany. Tickets for both matches will go on sale on February 20th.

TIAR is currently holding a pledge drive. If you liked what you read consider a donation.

If the Eagles only have two matches this summer as currently planned it would be another major disappointment for the team, especially if one of those matches is against Germany. Yes, having Scotland come in for a marquee match is fantastic but in terms of preparation for the World Cup in 2019 having two matches against opponents like Tonga or Samoa would arguably be better. The U.S. need more matches, not less.

At this point four years ago in 2014 there was no ARC but the U.S. had matches against Scotland, Japan, Canada, Romania, Tonga, and Fiji. If you go back to last November's tour and include the ARC through next summer the U.S. will have played Germany (twice), Georgia, Argentina XV, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, and Scotland. In 2014 every team they played was going to the World Cup. In 2017-18 only Uruguay, Georgia, and Scotland have booked their place. Getting more games is important but so is having them against solid opponents.

  1. We should play Canada every June. Being so close, there's no reason not to play them at least once more outside the ARC.

  2. I thought they were supposed to rejoin the Pacific Nations Cup this year or is that not going to happen anymore?
