Women Eagles Finish 8th In Sydney

The Women Eagles had some things go their way over the weekend at the Sydney 7s but overall will be disappointed to finish in 8th place. Pool play is where they saw most of their success with a tight loss to England, a very solid win over Japan, and a loss to New Zealand. That turned out to be good enough for second place in the pool and crucially a spot in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately it didn't work after that with losses to Russia, Spain, and Ireland.

The results means that the U.S. has slipped down into 5th in the standings behind Australia (who have won both tournaments so far), New Zealand, Canada, and Russia. That's not where they want to be but with three tournaments left, including a tournament close to home in Canada.
