VOTE: TIAR Awards--Match of the Year

All TIAR Awards are brought to you by Canterbury USA. #CommittedToTheGame

The TIAR Award for Match of the Year is always one of our favorites to hand out. Every year we think back on the number of great matches that were played and have a hard time narrowing it down to four. With that in mind that we missed some, here are our choices:

The Club 7s final between Utah and the Denver Barbarians. Denver led with just a minute to go and everything was going well until they kicked it away. From there Don Pati and the rest of the Utah team made them pay.

St. Mary's comes back To beat Cal. One of the best rivalries in rugby is St. Mary's against Cal. They have history, they have talent, and they are both entertaining. That was certainly on display back in March when St. Mary's piped a win at Cal in the final moments.

U.S.A. scores late to draw with Argentina XV and win ARC. With less than ten minutes in the game the Eagles were down 27-15 on the road in front of a hostile crowd. First it was Cam Dolan to score and then David Tameilau crashed over after the hooter. All that was left was the easy conversion and the Eagles had the title.

Women Eagles defeat Italy, set World Cup tone. The Eagles had a great chance of making the semi-finals at the World Cup but they needed to get a strong result in their first match against Italy. They took care of business and after being Spain by a large margin and playing well against England it was enough to secure the win.

TIAR is currently holding a pledge drive. If you liked what you read consider a donation.

  1. What about USA VS Canada in SD? That match was exciting to be at for sure. It was also somewhat historic fir the world cup qualification deal as well. Definitely a big match in my mind.
