Falcons Get Mixed Results In Chile

The good news is that the Falcons won more matches than they lost at the Vina de Mar 7s in Chile. The bad news is that they still missed out on the quarterfinals. The Falcons finished their trip to South America in 9th place following up on their 10th place finish a week before in Uruguay. However, the Falcons took a very young team to the tournament with an emphasis on development. While the results may not have gone the way they would have liked there is little argument that the players participating didn't learn a lot.

First up in the tournament was France. Despite a try fro Connor Wallace-Sims the Falcons fell 33-7. They then fell 17-12 to Uruguay with Ben Broselle and Alex Elkins scoring tries. Pool play did end on a bright note as the Falcons beat Colombia 28-17 but it wasn't enough to make the top eight. That meant that on day two they faced Paraguay first. Again, the Falcons found their groove in a 36-10 win. Last up was a rematch with Colombia where the U.S. squeaked out a 14-12 win with Cal alums Nick Boyer and Anthony Salaber scoring tries.
