AJ MacGinty Out Long-term With Knee Injury

AJ MacGinty could spend the next year on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury last Saturday in Sale's match against Harlequins.  MacGinty had been on strong form for Sale over the last few weeks and was a big reason Sale had been playing well. The full results of examinations on MacGinty's knee won't be known until later this week but the early projections are that he will be out 9-12 months. That puts him out of the Eagles summer series and almost certainly the November internationals. He wasn't called into the ARC squad. It also puts his timeline in a place that he should be available for the World Cup in 2019.

In the meantime there are a handful of candidates to replace him. Will Hooley was just called into Eagles camp. He has Premiership experience and currently plays with Bedford. Will Magie and Ben Cima are also in camp and options. Each is now not just auditioning to be back-up when MacGinty comes back to health but now the full-time job for the next year. You can also include James Bird on this list even though he isn't in Eagles camp.

We'll leave you with something positive from MacGinty.

  1. That sucks. Big loss. It will be good to see Hooley, Magie and Cima get the match time though. It just means we should have some good depth at #10 come 2019.
