Former NFL Player Turns Pro In Rugby League

NFL veteran Silas Redd has joined the Ipswich Jets in the hopes of making it as a rugby league professional. Redd, who played 15 games with Washington in the 2014 season, has been hit with injuries but is hoping that rugby league could be his big ticket to another payday. He played his college football at USC before being signed as an undrafted free agent running back.

According to a report in Australia, Redd paid his own way to a recent set of rugby league matches in Hawaii in the hopes of being noticed. It's paid off with an invitation to join the Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup. Some observers in Australia think that if that goes well he could be on an NRL roster by the end of next season. Of course this isn't the first time an NFL player has tried to make it in Australia but it's another situation that bears monitoring.
