CWU, Arizona Enter Fall Classic As Favorites

The field at the Collegiate Fall Classic may only feature eight teams but it should still be one of the best tournaments to watch during the fall with some very quality teams. It starts at the top with Central Washington and Arizona. Those two teams recently met in the Bay Area at the West Coast 7s with Central Washington winning the tournament. The CWU Wildcats look strong but so does Arizona and now they will have seen what Central Washington can do. The reverse is true as well.

Although Central Washington and Arizona appear to be at the top there are plenty of other teams in the field that can impress as well. San Diego State may be the team that provides the breakthrough. They have a very strong pedigree with a lot of good talent. The same can be said of both Cal Poly and UC-Davis. The Aggies may have underperformed at the West Coast 7s but now with another tournament under their belt they might be better. Local sides Santa Clara and Stanford round out the field along with USC.

Play begins on Saturday with a set of first round matches. Arizona will play Stanford, Cal Poly will play UC-Davis, USC takes on Central Washington, and San Diego State play Santa Clara. Each team will play another match on day one based on who won their first round match. For example, if Arizona beats Stanford they will play the winner of Cal Poly vs. UC-Davis. Day two will then re-seed teams based on how they did on day one. The final will be late in the afternoon.
