USA Selects Picked For APC

Last year's captains with Joe Taufete'e representing the Selects.
A mixed squad of young players and players with Eagles experiences has been selected to play for the USA Selects at the Americas Pacific Challenge in Uruguay next month. With the Eagles without a coach at the moment Scott Lawrence has stepped up to fill in. Overall, it's a squad that should be competitive with the experience on the roster but one that can blood new players, which is exactly what you want out of a development tournament.

Players returning with full caps to their name include Alex Maughan, Paddy Ryan, and Angus MacLellan in the props, Peter Malcolm at hooker, Matt Jensen and Ben Landry at lock, and Hanco Germishuys at flanker.  In the backs capped players include Ben Cima, Bryce Campbell, Zach Pangelinan, JP Eloff, and Tim Maupin. For Maupin it's a return to the team after a long stretch of non-selections under John Mitchell.

Development players on the roster include solid prospects like Psalm Wooching from Seattle, Kelepi Fifita from Glendale, and Ruben De Haas from Little Rock. There is also a strong college presence on the team, including a number of veterans from BYU.

Rounding out the team is a group of "home based" players that will be called in if injury strikes.

The tournament starts on October 7th with the U.S. playing Samoa A. They will play Uruguay A on October 11th and Canada A on October 15th.

  1. Interesting to see Wooching listed in the backrow. Such depth there already.
