Hawks Down Wolverines In Final RLWC Warm-up

The USA Hawks have completed their final Rugby League World Cup warm-up match with a 36-18 win over the Canada Wolverines in Toronto. The match was part of a double-header with the Toronto Wolfpack. Bureta Faraimo scored three tries for the Hawks while Taylor Alley contributed two, and Junior Vaivai and Martwain Johnson one each. The Hawks previously had a warm-up match against Jamaica which they also won.

Heading into the World Cup the team will have built on a full USARL season but it's possible that the Hawks bring in players from Europe and Australia with American heritage. That's what was done for the previous World Cup that saw the team make it to the quarterfinals. Organizers have said that a largely domestic squad will be used, which was the case against Canada, in order to grow the game in America. The World Cup starts at the end of October.

Hawks: Hiko Malu, Nick Newlin (Atlanta Rhinos), Mike Elias (Boston 13s), Taylor Alley, Bart Longchamp (Central Florida Warriors), Martwain Johnston (Deleware Black Foxes), Pio Vatuvei (Jacksonville Axemen), Joshua Rice (New York Knights), Bureta Faraimo (NZ Warriors), Chris Frazier (Northern Virginia Eagles), Gabriel Farley, Andrew Kneisly (Philadelphia Fight), Jonathon St John, David Ulch (Tampa Mayhem), Joe Eichner, Ryan Burroughs (Toronto Wolfpack), Junior Vaivai (West Devils, Illawarra), Charles J Cortalano, Matthew Walsh (White Plains Wombats)
