Women Eagles Nab Crucial Victory

The Women Eagles got a big boost in their hopes of making the semi-finals at the World Cup with a combination of positive results today. The first came down to the work of the team itself in a 43-0 win over Spain. The team needed another solid performance after beating Italy a couple of days ago and with England on tap. They got just that with Naya Tapper scoring twice to lead the way while Jordan Gray, Cheta Emba, Jessica Javelet, Hope Rogers all added tries of their own along with a penalty try. (Please read The Rugby Breakdown's recap of the match.)

The team still has their destiny in their own hands if they beat England, who are also 2-0. However, England are considered one of the favorites to win the World Cup. The goal in that match for the Eagles will be to take away as many bonus points as possible. As things stand the Eagles sit in the best position of all the second best teams in each pool with 10 points. Canada have nine points while Ireland have eight. Canada will have to face New Zealand and Ireland will take on France for top spot in their pool. The best situation for the Eagles is to win or take bonus points off England while hoping that Canada lose to New Zealand without bonus points and Ireland do the same against France.
