Who Are Conor Dolan & Peni Tagive?

The Ramblin Jesters surprised a lot of people with their strong play at the RugbyTown 7s. They featured a team largely made up of some college standouts like Alex Faison-Donohue and the Barry brothers from UCLA but other players on the team were largely unknown to American fans. Hopefully that's not the case anymore thanks to their strong showing.

We wanted to highlight two players in particular--Conor Dolan and Peni Tagive--that we think we might hear more from sooner than later. Dolan is a center and wing that was raised in England but qualified for the United States. He played his youth rugby at Wellington College (like Madison Hughes) and was in the Wasps system for awhile playing academy, reserve, and LV= Cup games. Later went on loan to Jersey in the RFU Championship two seasons ago but has been playing a lot of 7s recently with the Jesters which is how he came on the notice of the U.S. coaching staff. He also represented England at the U-18 level.

Peni Tagive comes on the Eagles radar having most recently played for the Austin Huns. Prior to that he played college football at Baylor University. Originally from Australia the 25 year old played a total 18 games in the NRL in Australia for the Dragons, Roosters, and Tigers. He qualifies for the U.S. based on residency as a mature student.

As anyone saw over the weekend both have a lot of tools to be successful. Dolan was at the center of a lot of what the Jesters tried to do. It's a dirty work type of player that is good at the breakdown. Tagive has the athleticism that every coach loves. Expect both to be called into camp soon.

  1. Previous reports mentioned Tagive and his brother have a US parent that qualifies them. Is that not the case?
