Maafu In France, Hilterbrand Back With Sydney

A couple of news items to pass along concerning Americans overseas. The first comes from Australia where James Hilterbrand has been confirmed on the Sydney Rays squad for the upcoming National Rugby Championship. Hilterbrand is no stranger to the competition having spent the last two seasons with the Rays. He also was once again a major fixture for Manly in the Shute Shield. He captained the side to a spot in the semi-finals. The NRC will butt in nicely to the Eagles November internationals. The other American in the competition is Marcel Brache who is playing with the Perth Spirit.

Also, as we noted in Eagles Abroad last weekend Nafi Maafu is playing the upcoming year with Perpignan. With the Pro D2 side loaded in the second row he'll probably see most of his time with the reserve team. That's not bad for a young player who has put himself in a full-time training environment. The stint in France comes after the All-American just spent six months in New Zealand with the IRANZ Academy. He joins Siaosi Mahoni as a young American forward gaining experience in France.
