Army Claim Armed Forces Championship

The Army are the 2017 Armed Forces champions after beating the Air Force 34-0 at the RugbyTown 7s. The result wasn't unexpected given the Army's dominance through pool play.

The Air Force came out ready to play and had the bulk of the possession early only to see a knock-on end their chance. From that possession the Army made the Air Force pay. John Cullen. who has been outstanding all weekend, used his power to fend off a defender and race in for the opening score. Will Holder would hit the conversion to give Army a 7-0 lead.

Army would soon grab their second try. Anthony Welmers, who has Eagles 7s camp experience, batted the restart back and from there it was quick hands for the second try. 12-0 to Army. It was the Physicality of the Army that dominated the Armed Forces division all tournament. They were dominant at the breakdown and were able to limit what teams could do against them. When they had the ball in hand they were unstoppable.

Michael Melendez-Rivera and Welmers scored to finish the first half to lead 24-0. In the second half Zack Forro and Maliki Mulitalo scored tries in the second half to give Army a 34-0 result.
