Tonga Rounds Out Eagles RWC Pool

The U.S. have learned their final World Cup opponent after Tonga finished second in the Pacific Nations Cup. The tournament was split over two years with Tonga, Fiji, and Samoa each playing each other once each summer with the total after two years determining the standings. This year Tonga crucially beat Samoa 30-26 in the first match and then narrowly lost to Fiji 14-10 in the next round. Fiji then beat Samoa to give Tonga second place.

Pool C now is finalized with England, France, Argentina, U.S.A., and Tonga. The U.S. will not be favored in any of the matches. That said, they will certainly be targeting Tonga as a potential win. The U.S. does not have a great record against Tonga.

As things stand the pools look like this:

Pool A: Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Europe 1, Repechage
Pool B: New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Africa (almost certainly Namibia)
Pool C: England, France, Argentina, U.S.A., Tonga
Pool D: Australia, Wales, Georgia, Fiji, Americas 2
