South, Midwest, & Mid-Atlantic 7s Recap

It's time to take a look around the 7s qualifiers in the East.

The Chicago Lions and Metropolis will go into the Midwest 7s Championship later in the month as the top two teams. The Lions head in with a lot of momentum having won the last two tournaments. The latest was a win at the Legacy 7s over Metropolis. The reach the finals the Lions beat their B team while Metropolis beat a  surging Cincinnati team.

On the women's side the Lions have booked a spot in the Club 7s Nationals even before the Midwest 7s Championship. Thanks to their "Golden Ticket" rule in the Midwest the Lions qualify thanks to having won all three lead-in tournaments. The Griffins, Cincinnati, Legacy, and 1823 will all fight it out for the second spot.

In advance of next week's Mid-Atlantic Championships the teams gathered in Wilmington last weekend for the final qualifier tournament. The Beltway Elite and Schuylkill River both were dominant on the day rolling into the final for another week. The Philadelphia side took a three try lead before Beltway came back to go ahead 19-17. Schuylkill River came back with a late try but it looked like Beltway would score a late try only to have their player go into touch. Both teams are widely expected to finish in the top two next week.

The Scion Sirens are coasting into the championships. Three teams make it form the Mid-Atlantic.

The South finished up their regional qualifiers in advance of the South Championships next weekend. The the Cottontown 7s the weather played havoc on the schedule. Fortunately the spirit of rugby came through with Southern Pines and Charlotte sharing the title. At the Georgia games the Legion of Doom beat Optimus. Both teams, along with Southern Pines and Charlotte are in the Championship.
