Old Blue Win Monmouth 7s, Metropolis Wins MadTown 7s


Monmouth 7s

The Empire 7s series kicked off over the weekend and it ended with the New York rivalry at center stage. The winning honors went to Old Blue who beat New York Athletic Club 33-0 in the final. Old Blue came out of pool play with wins over Long Island and Bulldogs 2. Old Blue beat the Bulldogs in the semi-finals while NYAC beat Mystic River.

There will be a break in the Empire schedule until next month while New England starts their campaign at the Newport 7s next weekend.

Metropolis have won the first qualifier in the Midwest. They beat the Chicago Lions in the final of the MadTown 7s. Metropolis prevailed in the final 15-7. To get to that point Metropolis had to beat the Chicago Blaze 24-5 in the semi-finals. Outside of Metropolis it was an all-Chicago affair in the semi-finals with the Lions beating the Griffins. The match against the Blaze was a rematch from pool play where Metropolis won 15-7. The Minneapolis club also beat the South Side Irish 36-0. They also beat hosts Wisconsin.

Several former All-Americans dotted the Metropolis roster. Jojo Tikoisuva has had some very strong moments has have Peceli Rinakama and Teli Veamatahau.

The women's tournament went to the Chicago Lions.

There is a couple week break for the qualifiers in the Midwest before the Rock n Roll 7s in Cleveland.
