Mystic River, Miami Win 7s Qualifiers

Newport 7s

The heavily contested Northeast region held another strong weekend, this time the Newport 7s. Mystic River gained good points in their drive to make it into the top two with a 17-12 victory over Old Blue. With the match close late Mystic River scored a crucial try to give them the win. Mystic River were perfect in pool play beating Long Island 28-7, the Lions 47-5, White Plains 36-0, and NYAC 36-14 to advance to the final.

Old Blue will be disappointed with the result but they still have the overall lead in the standings thanks to their win last weekend. Old Blue have 41 points with two tournaments left. Mystic River are two points behind them. NYAC are close with 34 points and 7s specialists Bulldog Rugby have 32 points. Both NYAC and Bulldog will need a tournament win to help keep pace.

Todd Miller 7s

One of the best 7s tournaments in the country, the Todd Miller 7s, acted as a qualifier for the Florida sub-region in the South over the weekend. It was the first qualifier in the region after an earlier tournament was cancelled due to weather. Miami ended up winning the tournament beating Boca Raton in the Cup final. In the women's bracket the guest Atlanta Harlequins beat the Miami Amazons in the final. The top two teams from each sub-region advance to the South finals.
