(UPDATED) Eagles Pick Starters To Play Canada

John Mitchell has named his starting line-up to face Canada in Hamilton, Ontario on Saturday. Injuries have shaken things up but Mitchell has also chosen to go with some new combinations. Leading the team out will be Todd Clever who starts at flanker alongside John Quill. Cam Dolan is the No. 8. On the bench are David Tameilau and Andrew Durutalo. After starting two weeks in a row Tony Lamborn is injured and unable to play.

The second row has been given a shake-up with Nate Brakeley set to miss out despite being healthy. His strong partnership with Nic Civetta has been broken up with Ben Landry starting alongside Civetta. In the front row an injury to Chris Baumann leaves Tony Purpura keeping his starting place and Paddy Ryan coming into the team. Ryan has plenty of experience in Europe so that should help the Eagles scrum. James Hilterbrand will start at hooker. The front row reserves are Peter Malcolm, Ben Tarr, and Dino Waldren. There is no word on whether Joe Taufete'e is injured or simply not selected.

Ben Cima is the only other backs option on the bench aside from Davies. Will Magie miss out on selection entirely. UPDATE: Ryan Matyas has been ruled out with an illness. 1. Joe Taufete'e has to be hurt. There is no way he doesn't make the roster. He is probably our best front row player.

  2. Agreed on Taufete. Still struggling to understand why Shaun isnt starting at SH.

    1. Davies is the better player. I like Augspurger on the wing best as he just doesn't seem like a 9. Some interesting selection choices and some really unfortunate injuries.

  3. These selections don't make a whole lot of sense to me. Some do, sure, but why put some people in, when others that are better players, with more experience, are available, and you have the best chance in forever to qualify to Americas1?

  4. Davies didn't have a very strong game vs Georgia. The offense seemed to flow better when Nate moved to 9 and Davies missed some key tackles early. And that's coming from a huge Davies fan. I believe Joe T is nursing a calf injury.
