Austin Blacks Win Bloodfest 7s, WAC Wins Salem 7s

The Austin Blacks have taken another step forward in qualification for the Club 7s Nationals with a win at the Bloodfest 7s in Austin. The ARPTC have done the same in the women's bracket. The Blacks won the final over the hosts the Austin Huns 14-7. That win was revenge for an early loss to the Huns in pool play. The Blacks beat Little Rock and HARC in pool play to set up a semi-final against the Kansas City Blues. The Blacks prevailed in that won 28-21 while the Huns beat the Dallas Reds 19-12. In the women's final the ARPTC beat the Austin Valkryies. As things stand the Blacks and the Huns occupy the top two spots in the men's bracket with three tournaments to go. The ARPTC and Valkryies hold the same spots on the women's side of things.

Also out West, the Washington Athletic Club won the Salem 7s qualifier. WAC has a lot of familiar faces that have played with the Seattle Saracens in recent years including Aladdin Schirmer, Pete Tiberio, Kellen Gordon, and Mike Palefau. WAC beat the Eastside Tsunami 33-10 in the final. The Atavus women beat ORSU to win the women's qualifier. The next qualifier for the Pacific Northwest is not until the CanAm 7s next month.
