TIAR College Top Ten Power Rankings

Photo: Connie Hatfield
Our final College Top Ten Power Rankings of the season are in. St. Mary's finishes number one with Cal second. Life and BYU round out the top four.

1. St. Mary's (Last Week: 2, beat Life 30-24): St. Mary's finished their season on a high note with a third DI-A title in five years. It was the way the Gaels won that was very impressive to us. Dylan Audsley did really well to chip away at the scoreboard and then when they needed a try at the end they got it. St. Mary's have had some ups and downs this year but probably their best decision was to go on tour to Ireland and Scotland. That really helped them come together as a team and gave them the confidence needed when they found themselves behind against Life.

2. Cal (LW: 3, beat Arkansas State 43-13): The Golden Bears were held close in the first half against Arkansas State but the result wasn't really in doubt. In many ways the match was emblematic of their season in that they had some close calls but most of the time the results weren't really in doubt. If they had beaten St. Mary's in their encounter we have have put them at number one. Also, thoughts are with Robert Paylor as he recovers from a serious injury suffered in the first half of the Varsity Cup final. You can donate to his recovery here.

3. Life (LW: 1, lost to St. Mary's 30-24): Traveling across the country is tough and maybe that was a factor late as the Running Eagles weren't able to hold on to the lead. Giving up that lead will be disappointing but it still shouldn't distract from what was a great season. The team continues to be a powerhouse and with the Mid-South continually improving they are getting good matches.

4. BYU (LW: 4, season finished): BYU finished their season with a loss to Life in the DI-A semi-finals.

5. Lindenwood (LW: 5, season finished): Lindenwood finished their 15s season with a loss to Life in the DI-A quarterfinals. They are focusing on the College 7s Nationals in just over a week.

6. Arkansas State (LW: 6, lost to Cal 43-13): In the first half Arkansas State were right in it against Cal and played some great rugby. They left too many points on the board and could have made a bigger run in that first half but it's a lesson learned for next year. Arkansas State are rebuilding but they are definitely a program on the rise.

7. San Diego State (LW: 6, season finished): San Diego State finished their season with a loss to St. Mary's in the DI-A quarterfinals.

8. Central Washington (LW: 7, season finished): Central Washington finished their season with a loss to Navy in the Varsity Cup quarterfinals.

9. Indiana (LW: 9, season finished): Indiana finished their season with a loss to BYU in the DI-A quarterfinals.

10. Penn State (LW: 10, season finished): Penn State finished their season with a loss to Cal in the Varsity Cup semi-finals.
