DI East Coast Recap: Finals Time For Mid-Atlantic & Midwest

It's time to check in with DI club play from the East.

Columbus and the Chicago Lions will square off for the Midwest title next week after winning their respective semi-finals. Columbus took care of business beating the Chicago Griffins 29-19 while the Lions beat Metropolis 40-19.

In Columbus, the home team got off to a hot start with tries from Mason Baum, Riekert Hattingh, and Zack Streyffeler to lead 17-0 with 50 minutes played. The Griffins finally responded with a try but thing another try from Hattingh and Taylor Howden gave Columbus a lead they would never relinquish. Chicago scored two later tries to make the final respectable.

In the other match it was close at halftime with the Lions leading 26-14 before they pulled away in the second half. They once led 26-0 in the first half before Metropolis stormed back for two tries before the break. In the second half they led 33-19 for most of the half before getting a late try.

In the Mid-Atlantic it will be Rocky Gorge against the Pittsburgh Harlequins for a chance at regionals. Rocky Gorge beat Norfolk 52-31 while Pittsburgh beat Schuylkill River 31-17.

Rocky Gorge have been good all year but they won't be happy giving up as many points as they did to the Blues. Norfolk actually scored first via Herman Sandoval before Rocky Gorge stormed back with a hat-trick from Matias Cima and tries from Kevin Jackson Jr. and Brady Smith. At the half Rocky Gorge led 38-5. They took their foot off some in the second half as They were outscored by the Blues.

Pittsburgh had to go on the road but they were successful in beating Schuylkill River 31-17. The match was a bit of revenge for the Harlequins after they lost to Schuylkill River last week to lose home field advantage.

The winners from the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest next week will join NYAC and Mystic River in the East regionals.
