Cal are not only heavy favorites to beat Penn State but to also claim the overall Varsity Cup title. Cal have lost three times this year but two of those game to UBC, one of the best teams in North America, and the other was a narrow loss to St. Mary's. Outside of that Cal has rarely been challenged. Jack Clark and staff have their team playing well and despite the cross-country trip had no trouble getting past Clemson last weekend. We expect that to be the case once again this week as they play Penn State. The Nittany Lions beat Army last week in a high scoring match and Penn State have talent but now it's their turn to travel across the country and into a venue in which Cal does not lose often.

The other semi-final has Arkansas State hosting Navy. Arkansas State has had a mostly solid season. They haven't been able to get past either Life or Lindenwood but not many teams have. They do have a quality win over Indiana under their belts and they really seem rejuvenated this year. They are our pick to go through here but it should be close.
Navy are coming off their upset win over Central Washington in double overtime. Navy showed a lot of grit in the win being able to find timely tries. Their fitness also shown through in the end. They will need that fitness again as they go on the road and face a confident Arkansas State. The Midshipmen certainly have the ability to pull off the upset but Arkansas State will be favored.
