Singapore 7s: Eagles Beat Scotland, Make Quarterfinals

The Eagles are into the Cup quarterfinals after a 33-26 win over Scotland in their second pool play match at the Singapore 7s. It wasn't as thorough as the win over Wales earlier in the day and the match was level at 12 a piece at halftime. However, the U.S. were able to pull away in the second half for the victory.

Each team traded errors early on in the match but it was Scotland that would have the better possession and would turn that into an early try. Scotland were able to get in great field position because they won both the restarts. Still, the Eagles found their way into the match. After cycling through every player it was punched out to Perry Baker who went in for his second try of the weekend.

From the restart the Eagles soon had their second as Steve Thomasin scored. That put the Eagles up 19-12 with five minutes to go. Danny Barrett would help the Eagles capitalize on a Scotland mistake to extend the lead even further at 26-12. The final score came as Niua put in a great grubber kick that sat up perfectly for Baker of the try.

Scotland did have their chances as things went along and even scored a couple of tries but it wasn't as close as the final score indicated.

The Eagles will next play New Zealand for the top spot in the pool at 8:50 a.m. et/5:50 a.m. pt.
