The Rugby Gold Cup, a competition that matches the two top teams from the Red River against the Midwest, held another round of matches last weekend. After the two double-headers the Dallas Reds have emerged as the only unbeaten team and hold a four point advantage over number two Metropolis. Even better for Dallas they have a match in hand.
Things kicked off last Friday with a couple of relatively straightforward wins for the two Red River teams. Antonio Winn got things started with a couple of tries for the Blacks before Michael Medina and Nathan Belachew added one each to push the lead to 20-0. Chicago finally got on the board around the 30th minute but Austin would get two more tries from Stephen Jones to push the halftime lead to 32-7. They only added to that in the second half with three more tries to two for the Griffins.

The other match saw the Reds defeat Metropolis 33-19. That win saw the Reds leapfrog Metropolis in the standings.
On Sunday the Reds continued to roll as they went up on the Griffins 17-7 at halftime before eventually winning 38-17. Metropolis rebounded from their loss on Friday with a 34-12 win over the Blacks. The halftime score of that one was 17-5 in favor of Metropolis.
Five matches remain in the competition. All four teams will gather in Minneapolis on March 31st and April 2nd for another set of double-headers. After that all that is left is the Red River match between Austin and Dallas on April 29th. If Dallas can beat Metropolis in their first match in Minneapolis then that will clinch the title.
