Who Will Start For The Eagles Against Argentina?

Head coach John Mitchell is going to have some big decisions to make as the Eagles enter their final ARC match against the Argentina XV. This is going to be the toughest match the Eagles will face yet. At the same time the ARC is about development and playing some younger players against Argentina is about as good of experience as you can get. It's also a non-cap match but with the ARC title on the line Mitchell could choose to go with experience.

Prop: Chris Baumann, Tony Purpura, Ben Tarr, Ollie Kilifi, Demecus Beach

We're not sure that Mitchell makes too many changes here. We think that Chris Baumann starts once again and that he's reunited with Tony Purpura. They've been good together so far this year and they should be the best combination against Argentina. Between Ben Tarr, Ollie Kilifi, and Demecus Beach their could be choices. We think it's Tarr and Kilifi.

Hooker: James Hilterbrand, Peter Malcolm

James Hilterbrand or Peter Malcolm? It's a legitimate question Mitchell now faces himself with after both have played well. We think that Malcolm gets the surprise start over Hilterbrand. Hilterbrand may have more experience but it's a good opportunity for Malcolm.

Lock: Siaosi Mahoni, Matt Jensen

The only way we see Siaosi Mahoni and Matt Jensen not being the starting combination is if Mitchell decides to move either Cam Dolan or David Tameilau down to the locks in order to supply experience. We don't think that's the case and Mahoni and Jense get the starts.

Back-row: Todd Clever, Tony Lamborn, Cam Dolan, David Tameilau, Hanco Germishuys

Mitchell is going to be faced with tough choice here. If he moves Dolan or Tameilau down to lock then it makes the choice easy with Todd Clever, Tony Lamborn, and Dolan starting. However, we don't think that happens. We think that it's Lamborn, Dolan, and Tameilau starting on the back-row.

Scrumhalf: Shaun Davies, Nate Augspurger

It wouldn't shock us to see Augspurger start here on Saturday but at the same time he's been great on the wing leaving Davies to start. We think that's the case with Davies starting.

Flyhalf: Will Magie, Ben Cima

Ben Cima got the start last weekend and with Argentina proving to be a solid test we think that it's Will Magie getting the start. His kicking could be tested if Davies doesn't take the kicking duties. Magie has been fantastic so far this year.

Center: Bryce Campbell, JP Eloff, Calvin Whiting

We could see Calvin Whiting breaking in here but the pairing of Bryce Campbell and JP Eloff has been good and we don't see it breaking up.

Wing: Ryan Matyas, Spike Davis, Andrew Turner, Nate Augspurger

Augspurger is likely to get the start on the wing again. If Ryan Matyas is back to health then he could see time on the other side just like against Canada. If he's not able to go we don't think that Spike Davis starts but instead it's Andrew Turner who gets an opportunity to earn big time minutes.

Fullback: Mike Te'o

Yep, this one goes to Te'o as he's the only real option.

Our (probably wrong) guess:

1. Purpura
2. Malcolm
3. Baumann
4. Jensen
5. Mahoni
6. Dolan
7. Lamborn
8. Tameilau
9. Davies
10. Magie
11. Augspurger
12. Eloff
13. Campbell
14. Turner
15. Te'o

16. Hilterbrand
17. Tarr
18. Kilifi
19. Clever
20. Germishuys
21. Cima
22. Whiting
23. Davis

  1. Ben Cima should start learning more fullback. I could see his BOOMING foot being valuable to gain yards when needed especially when Aj sin the lineup.

    1. Yeah. Have plenty of flyhalf talent, short on fullbacks.

  2. Did I miss Hume? Did he play in any of the matches?
