Sydney 7s: Eagles Beat Wales, Advance To Plate Final
The Eagles are into the Plate final against Fiji at the Sydney 7s after beating Wales 19-10. It wasn't the prettiest of wins for the Eagles but the stellar passing of Folau Niua was enough of a difference to pick up the win. The U.S. will play Fiji at 1:57 a.m. et/10:57 a.m. pt.
The U.S. had the early possession but weren't able to come up with the quick score. Having gone through a tough tournament and the heat the Eagles looked sluggish at first but Wales were nearly as sluggish. The early difference was that the U.S. was able to keep better possession and when Folau Niua threw a bullet of a pass to Martin Iosefo the Hawaiian had enough space to go in for the early try.
Carlin Isles then added to the U.S. lead thanks to some solid work from Steve Tomasin. Tomasin won a turnover a the breakdown and from there the ball was flung out wide to Isles who burned the defense for the score and a 14-0 halftime lead.

The U.S. nearly grabbed another try to start the second half as they tried the chip and chase with Isles but he couldn't collect the ball while running full speed.
Wales did have their opportunities in the match and when the Eagles let their foot off the gas somewhat in the second half Wales were able to get a try back. Soon they added another and with two minutes left it was a ballgame at 14-10.
Needing an insurance try another beauty pass from Niua found Isles who went in for what would be the cushion they needed to seal the result. Overall it wasn't the best game for the Eagles but they will gain more points on the Series and move up the table. They have a chance to grab even more points if they can beat Fiji.
