Lions Name Clancy Head Coach

Press Release

We are pleased to announce our new head coach for the Chicago Lions, Dave Clancy, the first full-time head coach in the history of this great team. We believe that in order to stay competitive at the highest level and to build a true rugby organization, this deal had to be done.

A special thanks goes to Tiger Rugby who introduced us to Dave during our coaching search. Although his main position is Head 15s Coach of the Chicago Lions, he will also work with Tiger to increase their presence in the Chicagoland area.

Dave originally hails from Ireland, coming to the Lions after spells with various teams around the world including Munster Rugby, Samoa and, most recently, the Cayman Islands. A graduate of Sports and Exercise Science in Limerick, his early experience was predominantly in the area of elite strength and conditioning for rugby before moving into more skills and coaching roles. He has been part of some very successful organizations including Munster under-age championships teams, a Samoa Junior World Trophy-winning side, and a national set-up in Cayman where, during his tenure, saw a rise to a record World Rugby ranking and became the smallest nation in history to qualify for the prestigious Hong Kong 7s. Dave worked with multiple teams in the Cayman Islands including the academy, U19s, Women’s 7s, Men’s 7s, and Men’s 15s national programs, gaining invaluable experience in multiple areas of coaching.

Dave’s contract with the Chicago Lions Rugby Football Club runs through 2019.
